Echoes and Destinations
Video screening evening is a personal view on early video, and performance art influences from its origins in 1970’ visible in video stills by Neša Paripović (Serbia) and video interview with Dalibor Martinis( Croatia) following its echoes within two generations of immigrant artists: Vojislav Radovanović and Snezana Saraswati Petrović. The video screening will present the work, never seen in the USA before, that reflects early conceptual explorations and iconography of the “Belgrade Six Group” started with Marina Abramović in former Yugoslavia in 1970, juxtaposed to the current destination in Los Angeles.
The video works presented explores different ways of mapping: e.g., from the personal terrain mapping of the City of Belgrade in Paripović piece reflective of Gordon Matta-Clark, mapping of NYC subway, and Dalibor Martinis time mapping with an interview by himself with himself 31 years later will be followed by Radovanović surreal, queer narrative mapping, located in “unrefined suburban” Los Angeles to global mapping in Petrović poetic meditation on scientific data revolving around the story of the global spread of Black Carbon (BC) and ecological concerns that surpass the borders.
