We are proud to announce Charles Derenne’s upcoming multi-sensory performance ‘Requiem.’ This piece is a further development from his work presented in the current group exhibition, ‘Resolution Substandard.’
Hailing from the banks of Paris, Charles Derenne will transport us to the back alleys of Lincoln Heights where he will present his latest performance work titled ‘Requiem.’ Derenne is a supremely multifaceted artist, exploring and illuminating his view of the world through photography, videography, musical composition, and cinematic projects. His recent feature length documentary 24 HOUR SUNSET, a portrait of Los Angeles constructed through conversations between artists of the city, was presented by the film’s co-producer Douglas Gordon at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland and will be part of the upcoming Hauser & Wirth CinemArt film series in Gstaad.
Derenne’s performances are not to be missed. These experiential works are composed with a deeply cinematic sensibility and a moving poetic cadence. They are emotionally stirring, disturbing and illuminating.
Requiem is the latin for Rest. In a 30 mn musical and visual art performance, artist Charles Derenne composed an ode to life, using classical music elements and ambient synthesizers sonorities to create the symbolization of a life's soundtrack. A life torn between good, temptation & redemption. An art video directed by the artist, composed of a collage and association of pictures gathered over a period of 15 years.
Charles Derenne is a French artist, composer & director who performed at Moma PS1, Art Basel, MAK Museum, TBA 21, Palais de Tokyo, FIAC, Venice Biennale. He is the director of the upcoming feature documentary 24 HOUR SUNSET, presented by Hauser & Wirth at CinemArt co-produced by scottish artist Douglas Gordon.
