Revolutionary Friendship is as Deep as the Ocean

In this panel, Robeson Taj Frazier, Associate Professor of Communication at USC, Jeffrey Wasserstrom, Chancellor’s Professor of History at UCI, and Catherine Clark, Associate Professor of History and French Studies at MIT speak about Chinese international relations during the Cultural Revolution, as well as their research on Maoism in France, Africa, and the United States.

Robeson Taj Frazier explores Black and Afro-diasporic political cultures, popular cultures and intellectual histories, with an emphasis on cross-cultural contact, media and art.

Catherine Clark is a cultural historian of modern Europe, who has written widely about the histories of modern France and its visual culture. Her research is largely concerned with how the visual produces knowledge—both in the past and in contemporary historical practices.

Jeffrey N. Wasserstrom is a historian of modern China. Wasserstrom’s research interests began with the role of student protest and have grown to include the social history of China and comparative social history.
