Praz-Delavallade Los Angeles is pleased to present A Crack in my Cosmic Egg, the gallery's inaugural solo exhibition with artist Sébastien Léon. The exhibition will open on 13 January and will run through 15 February 2024. This exhibition invites viewers to immerse themselves in the enigmatic realms of the subconscious and its daydreams that unfold during those brief departures from the conscious world.
Léon's exploration begins through his unique expression, the Psychodessins — a rich collection of drawings that act both as conduits, triggering bursts of understanding, as well as sparks for further introspection. Throughout the exhibition circulates Léon’s own proxy, a small black figure probing deeper into the subconscious. The voyage of this character culminates in a deep black amorphous glass sculpture, an abstract and tangible symbol of the dissolution of the ego.
Further unveiling various manifestations from the liminal space between the subconscious and daydreams: a video loop undergoing a transformative evolution of dreamscapes; an abstracted mural of distorted figures prompting viewers to prepare for a hypnotic journey; a sound sculpture disguised as a human figure; a door of palindromes reflected infinitely in a game of mirrors; a silhouette within a painting walking the path between physical reality and imagination. Together, these elements coalesce into a space at once familiar and foreign.
The full collection of drawings featured in the exhibition is presented in a forthcoming book titled Psychodessins published by Hat & Beard Press. A limited number of signed copies will be available for sale at the opening reception held for the artist on 13 January from 5-8 pm.
