Sydnie Jimenez: Gift Horse

albertz benda is proud to present Gift Horse, ceramicist Sydnie Jimenez’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The unique ceramics show will be open at albertz benda’s West Hollywood gallery from September 6th - September 25th. The Chicago based artist creates figurative depictions of black and brown youth with varied personalities to show individuality within communities on the fringes of a popular culture rooted in white supremacy. Figures portray conversations around style, self-expression, internal reflection, and the observation of the self by others in relation to the post-colonial society we live in along with the many connotations this has. The show’s title, Gift Horse, references the idiom “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” a saying that refers to taking the good with the bad and not taking gifts or life for granted.
