Mooijekind makes dense, figurative Drawings and Paintings.
In his works, he frequently uses an autobiographical avatar in combination with a wide array of symbols and references to give form to the myriad of philosophical images he hold in his head.
Mooijekind plays in a field where the grim, jubilant , epic, and mundane coexist.
He is visually inspired and formed by the honesty and directness of the cartoons and illustrations he used to watch and read growing up in the Netherlands in the 90’s.

The Entertainer
By Darius Airo
Jim Mooijekind’s inner psyche is painted on the surface of all his works. His images exist locked between the rib cage and belly of the artist.
Jim’s recent works are monuments to the soul. Statues dedicated to the human condition, icons to sadness love and humor.
Byopic paintings that flay the artists experience for the viewer, a stern welcome to recognize the parallels in our spirits. The spaces Jim’s paintings occupy are bodily. While reflective of the huge electric sky, unlimited meadows, the work is situated inside the spirit of the artist. still life’s placed carefully at the center of human experience.
These paintings are tragically hilarious, lush and cared for while abject and frank.
Mooijekind’ drawings as images are confidently situated in philosophy, humanizing and stripping the pretentiousness from the ideas that shape human experience and have an airwave in the soul. The circus of the day to day is placed on a brightly saturated pedestal to share an inspiring joke with the viewer, and encourage the audience to laugh, cry, dance and hold tightly this alternative reality depicted in Mooijekind’s internal mindscape.
