Opening this September in Los Angeles, A forest fire between us is the most extensive exhibition of Corinne’s photographs to date, delving into the trailblazing work of an artist who forever shaped the history of photography with her liberating and joyful portrayals of lesbian everyday life and lovemaking, at a time when such representation was largely absent. Inspired by yantras as diagrammatic depictions of fields of energy, Corinne’s ethereal compositions explore sexuality in all its spiritual charge, in the transcendence reachable through the sexual act and the exploration of pleasure in total freedom and acceptance. Considering the political and social context in which these images were created, between the 1970s and 80s, their detailed intimacy takes on a radical power; their tenderness becomes a tool of activism.
