The Lodge is thrilled to present Akiko Stehrenberger's first solo exhibition with the gallery - Doyrivative. The exhibition will be on view 2nd-25th November.
Doyrivative invites us to witness the absurdist, pop centric paintings and sculpture from the mind and hands of the reigning Queen of Screen Posters- Akiko Stehrenberger. Stehrenberger has received 23 Clio awards for her film and advertising design. She is nominated for 7 more Clios this year.
Stehrenberger’s ability to capture the essence of a film in a single poster image is echoed in her uncanny and revolutionary paintings and sculpture. In a time when the digital world has consumed us, Stehrenberger creates concise imagery commenting on our times – with allusions to social media blue checks, spell check gone awry and many more pertinent subjects.
Stehrenberger follows her intuition, viscerally responding to pop culture - In one painting Taylor Swift is lording over us from within a Goya painting. In Prince of Wows Stehrenberger has hand painted a commemorative plate of Diana - Princess of Wales with Owen Wilson's face and hair super imposed- they really do have the same hair!
Staying true to her instinct and absurdist mind fuels Akiko Stehrenberger to produce work that is thoughtful, intriguing, and full of humor & delight. Akiko Stehrenberger brings to mind artists- James Rosenquist, George Condo, Banksy, Yoko Ono….. and of course The Dadaists.
