Steve Turner is pleased to present No Running By The Pool, a solo exhibition featuring drawings from the last seven years by Los Angeles-based Robert Pokorny. According to the artist, “drawing is at the root of my practice, where ideas are born, tested and refined. When drawing, I work freely, without inhibition, allowing the mark making to dictate where the drawing wants to go. The outcome is determined by the process and I know that I am on the right path when all my thoughts fade away.” The works in No Running By The Pool include still lives and portraits that contain Pokorny’s idiosyncratic humor and his ongoing conversation with art history.
Robert Pokorny (born 1969, Merced, California) earned a BA (1992) and MFA (2011) at California State University, Long Beach and has presented his work in numerous exhibitions since 2006. Pokorny has had gallery exhibitions at Steve Turner, Los Angeles (2023), Johansson Projects, Oakland (2021) and Ampersand, Portland ( 2019 & 2020). He has also had solo presentations at art fairs including Expo Chicago (2022) and CAN Art Fair, Ibiza (2022). Pokorny has been featured in Amadeus Magazine, Art Maze Magazine, Arte Al’ Limite, Cool Hunting, Juxtapoz, Maps, Sound & Vision Podcast and Voyage LA. This is Pokorny’s second solo exhibition with Steve Turner.
