Steve Turner is pleased to present Acts of Service, a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based Shingo Yamazaki, featuring four paintings inspired by his childhood memories of growing up in Honolulu and working in his family’s Japanese restaurant. According to Yamazaki, the paintings are a nostalgic view of his second home, a family business that also presented his family’s culture to the broader public, the very thing that he aims to do with his paintings.
Shingo Yamazaki (born 1985, Honolulu) earned a BA at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. His work combines Hawaiian iconography with his own personal history as a mixed Korean and Japanese American. He has presented work at Sow & Tailor, Los Angeles, Steven Zevitas Gallery, Boston and Richard Heller Gallery, Los Angeles. This is his first exhibition at Steve Turner.
