Emmanuel Perrotin founded his first gallery in 1990 at the age of twenty-one. He has worked closely with his roster of artists, some for more than thirty years, to help fulfill their ambitious projects. Perrotin has galleries in Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Los Angeles, total approximately 8,000 square meters (86,450 square feet)
In 2024, Perrotin opened a gallery in Los Angeles housed in the former Del Mar Theater located at 5036 West Pico Boulevard, within the Mid-City neighborhood of Los Angeles. Key elements of the historic theater including the marquee and lightboard signage, ticket booth, glass poster boxes, and the theater hall have been retained and adapted as unique sites for artists’ interventions. The Del Mar’s original neon sign has been restored while the lighted marquee announces the gallery’s programming. The striped blue-and-grey pattern unifies the building and signage in a bold super-graphic, echoing the legacy of billboards and advertising that define the urban boulevards of Los Angeles. The gallery design is led by Johnston Marklee and styled by interior design firm Jamie Bush + Co., both based in Los Angeles. The two buildings, both dating to the 1930s, total 10,000 square feet (930 square meters).
Perrotin participates in more than twenty art fairs each year, including Art Basel (Basel, Miami, Hong Kong, Paris +); Frieze (London, New York, Los Angeles, Seoul); the Dallas Art Fair; Expo Chicago; ART021 and West Bund Art & Design (Shanghai); the Armory Show and TEFAF (New York); and artgenève (Geneva).
The gallery has expanded its mission in recent years, most notably through the production of thoughtful editorial content, such as podcast and video, as well as developing a programmatic calendar, which includes panel discussions, education workshops for children, and concerts.
The gallery also publishes catalogues, editions, and goodies, available in its bookstores.
