Sunken Bust Shimmering Stone presents new sculptures by Josh Cloud, featuring a series of heavily adorned figurative busts and totemic abstract works built from clay, custom glazes, and found materials. The exhibition continues Cloud's ongoing investigation into the reduced figure, presenting works in which identity is conveyed through adornment, material illusion, and only fragments of faces.
Josh Cloud lives and works in Los Angeles and holds a BFA from CalArts, where he also went on to serve as interim director of the ceramics program. He has had solo exhibitions at South Willard, Los Angeles, and Schlomer Haus Gallery, San Francisco, CA, and has been included in group exhibitions at Guerrero Gallery, Los Angeles; Good Mother Gallery, Los Angeles; and Gordon Robichaux, New York; among others. He atended Skowhegan and his work is included in the collection of the Hudson Valley MOCA.
