Join us on Saturday, September 19 at 12:45 pm for an Artists in Dialogue and tea at Make Room, bringing together painter Xingzi Gu, architect Paul Chan and interior designer Hanna Li. The conversation takes place during Gu's solo exhibition Periphery Dreaming and the group exhibition Tête-bêche, both on view through October 10.

All three grew up in mainland China or Hong Kong and built their practices in the United States. The discussion will explore what remains of the golden era of Hong Kong cinema and Japanese film in the work they make now: a remembered room, a film still, a gesture carried from one place to another. Gu's paintings hold figures in a state of waiting, with memories that shift each time they are recalled. Chan's Domestic Ritual furniture, on view in Tête-bêche, is built for a life that moves between rooms. Li's interiors draw on a family lineage of woodworkers and a childhood rhythm she still designs toward. Together they will talk about what these inherited images become once they arrive somewhere new, and what each of their disciplines can do with them.

Refreshment will be served. RSVP is encouraged.
