Lisson Gallery presents its first exhibition of work in Los Angeles by Hélio Oiticica, a seminal figure in 20th-century Brazilian art. Oiticica’s groundbreaking practice spanned abstract painting, participatory environments, and avant-garde films. Rising to prominence with the Grupo Frente and as a leader of Neo-Concretism, he redefined geometric abstraction with vibrant, rhythmic forms. The exhibition will feature a suite of gouaches by the artist, as well as a selection of his Spatial Reliefs (Relevos Espaciais) series, marking a significant evolution in the artist’s practice, anticipating his turn towards increasingly interactive, environmental works.
