A Performance: Cheflee in Woody De Othello’s Tuning the Dial

This Saturday, Oakland-based musician Cheflee will perform a live set within Woody De Othello’s exhibition Tuning the Dial. Othello’s frequent collaborator, Cheflee produced the ambient soundscape Vire Sab—“turning sand” in Haitian creole—that makes up the exhibition’s soundscape. “Emotion is energy in motion,” explains Othello, “felt rather than seen, almost like wavelengths or sound reverberations.” As visitors navigate the installation’s multiple elements, they are encouraged to participate in a collaboration between body and environment that recalibrates their internal compass, tuning the emotional dial.
