Lei Benben (b. 1977 in China), is a multidisciplinary artist recognized for her contributions to contemporary art, photography, and dance. She graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 2006 and has since built a remarkable career blending visual art, performance, and philosophical exploration.
Lei's solo exhibitions include The Gift (2015) at Beijing Art Now Gallery and Tribute to Isadora Duncan (2014) at Dong Gallery in Shanghai. Her earlier works, such as The Private Photograph Diary of Lei Benben 2008 (C5Art, Beijing, 2009) and Long Hair, No Hair (Art Now Gallery, Shanghai, 2007), showcase her unique perspective on identity and transformation. Her group exhibitions span prestigious venues globally, including Chinese Contemporary CMAA (Minsheng Art Museum, Beijing, 2016), Film (Art Basel Hong Kong, 2015), and Through the Body (University of Toronto Art Centre, Canada, 2014). Lei’s works have also been featured in international festivals like the Three Shadows Photography Award Exhibition (Beijing, 2012) and Magmart International Video Art Festival (Italy, 2011). A pioneer in mobile photography art, she is the first artist whose smartphone photography was collected by a major photography museum.
Deeply influenced by Zen Buddhism and qigong since 2011, Lei combines her spiritual practice with artistic expression, developing holistic courses integrating meditation and movement. Her artistic journey continues to inspire audiences across the world.
