INTLOMBE, a Xhosa term that translates to “the traditional divine healers and dancing,” features a group of new ceramic sculptures by South African artistSimphiwe Mbunyuza that reference home, ritual, and corn field landscapes. Mbunyuza draws from childhood memories of Eastern Cape Villages, South Africa, as well as his own spiritual journey as a newly traditional healer, to fill his ceramic works with shapes, scenery, and colors that remind him of home and his ancestral cultural activities.
