Band of Vices is pleased to present THIS PLACE MEANT, a group exhibition gathering six artists from Los Angeles and beyond for a multidisciplinary investigation into the meaning and remaking of home.
Featuring the work of Kaléa Daniels, Adji Dieye, Mark Steven Greenfield, hooz, Juniper Jones, Dominique Moody and Luis Napoles Moreno, THIS PLACE MEANT challenges common understandings of memory and place: Many of the works confront colonial histories of migration and environmental neglect, inviting viewers to consider the implications of a world that prioritizes the stationary spatial over the nomadic temporal. Other works celebrate the unique joy of finding home in friends, ancestors, and comrades, offering a more adaptive model for how knowledge may be retained and transmitted to new generations. In the wake of one of the largest natural disasters this nation has yet seen, This Place Meant is an explorative meditation on survival, resilience, and the enduring power of community.
This show is curated by Wade Osei Pryor and Tunmi Da Silva.
