Nahshon Dion: Residency

Nahshon Dion is a Bronx-based African American Louisiana Creole award-winning creative nonfiction writer, teaching artist, video editor, emerging documentary filmmaker, producer, grant writer, grants panelist, community organizer, fundraiser, disability advocate, and arts patron from Altadena, CA. As an entertainment professional for thirty years in various roles, she’s also appeared in front of the lens as a SAG-AFTRA actor.

At age thirteen, after the 1992 LA riots, she wrote an essay on community improvement and won a Discovery Card excellence award. In 1996, while attending John Muir High, she met rapper Tupac Shakur at her senior prom. Tupac referred her to his business partner Tracy Robinson, the founder and president of Look Hear Sound & Vision Productions. Following graduation, she interned at Look Hear and attended California State University, Los Angeles. Nahshon was a production assistant for Master P’s film, “Da Last Don” and “The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show”. She assisted British Executive Producers Charlie Parsons and Michael Davies at Buena Vista TV (Walt Disney). Nahshon was the production coordinator for Russell Simmons’ “One World Music” Beat and Shauna Garr’s documentary film “1 More Hit”.

She has received dozens of grants, fellowships, artist residencies, honors, and nationwide awards supporting the development of her forthcoming untitled memoir. As an arts advocate and grantwriter, Nahshon Dion has voluntarily assisted dozens of artists, entrepreneurs, and crime victims nationwide with acquiring substantial grants, funding, and vital resources. She also hosts a YouTube show TRANSBRATIONS, and is producing her first documentary feature film, “Renewed Life”.
