As part of a series of new content generated for the Hammer Museum’s Made in L.A. 2020 biennial titled a version, Gallery Association Los Angeles (GALA) presents video profiles on the biennial's curators and selected artists.
Assuming the roles of choreographer, dancer, and performer Ligia Lewis stages experimental performance that she both conceives and directs. Lewis uses the studio as a conceptual springboard to create dynamic site specific performance. She frequently invites performers into her work as collaborators to further explore the expressive possibilities of concepts and spaces. In this video the artist walks us through the beginning stages of her creative practice and introduces her work deader than dead, a performance that she has conceived and directed for Made in L.A. 2020.
