With his exhibition Dear Friends, Berlin-based, Swiss artist, Tobias Spichtig (incidentally a TV Bar regular and actor in Paradise) is debuting a new series of paintings and sculpture. 

The portraits stand as a row of intertwined faces. The works are emotional headshots. A cast in a hallucinatory gallery, waiting to be fed their lines. Spichtig’s ability to capture the spirit of his sitters is pulled from a perverse and intimate space. The paintings nod to the old and strange world of portraiture, and what it means to sit in front of someone who knows too much, or nothing at all, but will certainly require more. This is love. But there is also an inherent desperation in the drive to capture. To own those around you. To hang them above your mantel. Spichtig paints with this uncomfortable desire for unlimited intimacy.
